James ("Jim") L.E. Jappe (1891-1959) was a native of Cleveland, Ohio. His obituary in the Akron Beacon Journal (17 Aug. 1959) notes that he was a bachelor who spent all his spare time promoting Ohio. He had worked as a newspaperman and theater Press agent. But later he worked primarily for the "general welfare" of people, usually for no pay. He set up medical research funds and pushed issues such as improving mental health facilities (before 1960!). He was also long involved with the Republican Party, even chairing some of the nominating conventions.  Many of these letters are from others in the RNC hierarchy of the day.
