Lot Description
McKINLEY, William (1843-1901). A group of broadsides, glasses, textiles, and other ephemera related to the 1896 and 1900 presidential campaigns of William McKinley.
Linen bandana with patriotic motifs, approx. 19 x 19 in., featuring jugate images of McKinley and Hobart surmounted by "Sound - Money" and with riband at bottom reading "Protection / Prosperity / Patriotism." [1896]. -- Three small beverage glasses each featuring a different image and McKinley slogan: "Protection and Plenty," "Our Next President / Wm. McKinley," and jugate portraits of McKinley and running mate Garret A. Hobart joined by banners reading "Prosperity" and "Protection." [1896]. -- Additional political ephemera related to McKinley including pamphlets, invitations, advertising, sheet music, and more.
[With:] Two stereoviews, one published by C.H. Grave of Philadelphia with an image of the US Infantry at the 4 March 1897 inauguration of McKinley; one featuring an image of "The Supreme Moment" as McKinley is sworn in on March 4, 1901.
[Also with:] A ticket to the "Funeral Services of President McKinley" in Canton, Ohio, 19 September 1901. -- A ticket for a memorial service for McKinley held in Geneva Switzerland, 19 September 1901. -- Calling card for Mrs. McKinley with the handwritten note "With much love."
Republican candidate William McKinley was elected the 25th President of the United States in 1896 and was re-elected in 1900. He served from March 1897 until his assassination on September 14, 1901.
