Lot Description
[ROYALTY]. WINDSOR, Edward, Duke of (1894-1972). Autograph postcard signed ("E"), as Prince of Wales, to "My dear old John." G.H.Q., 26 December 1914.
1 page, 5 1/4 x 3 7/16 in. postcard, light soiling, few very light creases to corners and one to message field.
"Very many thanks for ur. letter of good wishes. I hope you'll get yr. transfer to the Rifle Bde. all right; you wld. be happy then. All is quiet here. I go home to morrow on 10 day's leave which will be a relief; hope to get some shooting. GOOD LUCK!! yrs. ever E."
The Prince was serving on the staff of Sir John French, Commander-in-Chief of the British Expeditionary Force in France at the time he wrote this note. The postcard features a lithograph of the barracks at Saint-Omer in France.
