Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Cemetery of the Evergreens, Brooklyn, N.Y. Two oversize albumen photographs from the Cemetery. Brooklyn, NY, n.d.
Each 12 x 5 1/8 in. albumen photograph (some chips, toning). Framed and matted, with mat reading "Cemetery of the Evergreens Brooklyn, N.Y." superimposed on a map of the cemetery.
The cemetery opened in 1849 on the border of Brooklyn and Queens and was designed by landscape architects Andrew Jackson Downing and Alexander Jackson Davis. The photographs capture the park-like setting and several obelisk tombstones.
