Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]  Stereoviews of Mt. Washington and vicinity, plus business card with Hindenburg explosion.


9 stereoviews of New Hampshire scenery by John P. Soule, including No. 525, Glen Ellis Fall. Pinkham Notch, N.H.; No. 114, Old Man of the Mountain, Franconia Notch, N.H.; No. 46, Interior of Snow Arch, Tuckerman's Ravine. August 16, 1861, Mt. Washington, N.H. Each with Soule's imprint on recto or verso. -- 5 stereoviews of New Hampshire scenery by Kilburn Brothers, Littleton, NH, including No. 28, Mt. Webster; No. 46, Flume below the Boulder; No. 107, Glen House. Each with Kilburn Brothers imprint on verso, 2 with retailer's stickers on verso. -- And 4 others, including a view of Thompson's Falls in North Conway, New Hampshire by H. Ropes & Co., NY with manuscript caption on verso. -- Together, 18 stereoviews. Conditions vary, though most feautring surface soiling and significant wear to edges and corners.

[With:] Cabinet card illustration of Cooper House, Otsego Lake, Cooperstown, N.Y.

[Also with:] 3 1/4 x 2 1/4 in. business card of Gus Pasquarella Photography (creased, light discoloration and wear to edges and corners). Card features Pasquarella's photograph of the Hindenberg explosion, taken while he was working as a photographer for the Philadelphia Bulletin. Several photographers got essentially the same shot, although Pasquarella’s is a bit earlier than several others and features a smaller fireball than most others.
