Kansai Yamamoto Pleated Shirt Dress, 1970-80s
Japanese designer Kansai Yamamoto is best known for creating many of David Bowie’s most prolific costumes. Yamamoto drew inspiration from the drama of Japanese Kabuki theater. For this dress, he was influenced by kimonos and broad-shouldered mantles worn by male characters on stage.
Light blue cotton draped long sleeve shirt dress with topstitched banded collar, bust and hip pleats, a detachable pleated hanging pocket, and front button closure.
