Provenance: Sold Swann Galleries,  9 June 1988 (sale 1471, lot 310). FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. First published in 1753, Voltaire based his play on The Orphan of Zhao, a thirteenth-century Chinese play attributed to Ji Junxiang. ESTC T137612.
