8vo. Half-title. Original red-lettered black cloth (corner slightly bumped). In unrestored unclipped dust jacket (some light chipping, rubbing, and minor soiling). Provenance: Dollie Sullivan MacGregor (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION, WITH SPILLANE'S SIGNATURE on a slip laid in. SPILLANE'S FIRST NOVEL, which includes the first appearance of private investigator Mike Hammer. By the time Spillane's novel was adapted to film in 1953, it had sold over 3.5 million copies.
