FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, SIGNED BY HUGO: "A Jules Simon Victor Hugo." Victor Hugo served as witness at the wedding of Jules Simon's son Gustave in 1879. After Victor Hugo's death, Gustave Simon ultimately became the guardian of his daughter Adèle and the administrator of her property.  Gustav Simon published several works about Hugo.
