Seven Japanese Bamboo Portable Writing Sets and One Brushpot
LATE 19TH CENTURY/EARLY 20TH CENTURY

the first a metal mounted example carved with 'basket weave', together with a rectangular bronze inkwell; the second in the form of a bamboo section, carved to show a scholar, together with a bronze flower head-form ojime; the third of rectangular form, the cover decorated in gold and colored hiramaki-e showing a rabbit looking up to the moon; the fourth in the form of a tree branch with two snails climbing on top, together with a lacquer single-case inro; the fifth carved to show a tiger underneath bamboo leaves, together with a blue and white porcelain single-case inro; the sixth carved to show seven sages underneath bamboo; the seventh decorated in lacquer showing floral blossom on leafy vines, together with a small brush and two small bronze rectangular ink wells; together with a small bamboo brushpot carved with characters, and a mother-of-pearl inlaid wood single-case inro (9).
