Lot Description

Three Japanese Lacquered and Metal Mounted Storage Boxes
LATE 19TH-EARLY 20TH CENTURY

the first a small nagamochi (storage chest), decorated in gold lacquer with flowering prunus, bamboo and pine trees, all reserved on a dark brown ground, having gilt metal mounts; the second a gold, red and black lacquered storage box, the top painted with red foliate scrolls against a black lacquered ground, above a pair of pull-out doors, decorated in gold and colored lacquer showing a rooster and a hen underneath pine trees, opening to four small drawers each decorated with a simple landscape, all above a larger drawer with the front panel painted with floral motif against a red ground, having silvered metal mounts; the third comprised of two compartments, the cover inset with coins, decorated with auspicious objects with, the sides painted with leafy branches, all on a black lacquered ground. 
Height of largest 10 1/2 in., 26.7 cm.
