Lot Description
Two Jean Paul Gaultier Items: One Jumpsuit and One Dress, 1990-2000s
This lot includes one jumpsuit and one dress. The jumpsuit was look 15 in Gaultier’s Spring 1997 ready-to-wear collection, a single trompe l’oeil piece which resembles a bomber jacket and pant ensemble when zipped; unzipped, it “expressed the designer’s signature charm and humor in a more elevated way.”
The pinstripe dress retailed for Gaultier’s iconic Spring/Summer 1994 Les Tatouages collection, a controversial, cross-cultural mélange of reference points, held together by Gaultier's fascination with body modification. The interior lining of this dress reveals a tattoo-inspired print produced for this collection and is an emblematic example of Gaultier's work: often daring and always wearable.
This lot includes one jumpsuit and one dress.
