Lot Description

18th Century Silver Thread Bodice

This sumptuously rich bodice dated to the second half of the 18th century, is made with silver brocade and still retains its lustrous metallic shine. Throughout its long history, it has been modified multiple times, as it can be observed on both the exterior and interior. The center front stomacher and the bones, originally sewn within the numerous vertical casings of the inner lining, are missing.

There is a vintage paper label sewn to the lining at the center back of the bodice. On this label is what appears to be a museum/archive accession number, suggesting this piece may have been a former deaccession and reads, "T. 222 silver brocade English bodice". Mrs. Gutfreund purchased this bodice at auction.
