Lot Description

[MILITARIA]. A group of firearms-related items, including: 


Printed broadside, approx. 6-1/2 x 8 in. Call for proposals to supply Black Walnut Gun Stocks for the US Arsenal on Schuylkill.  Signed in type Tench Coxe, Purveyor of Public Supplies, Philadelphia.

General Orders Nos. 7, 8 and 9, 1855. Washington, DC. G.O. No. 8 has a "Manual for Colt's Revolver." No. 9 contains a list of cadets graduating from USMA on July 1, 1855 and their assignments. The cadets include Godfrey Weitzel and Alexander Webb, who would both go on and serve in the Civil War. (disbound)

ALS, Hazard Powder Company, on Co. letterhead, New York, 28 May 1850. 3pp, 8 x 10 in. Signed A.G. Hazard, addressed to Messrs. McDaniel & Lee, Lynchburgh, VA. "This company have resolved to erect a magazine at Lynchburgh and I now beg to ask is you will proceed to secure the land and see the building put up with all possible despatch. From a quarter to half an acre will be ample land for the purpose and it will need to be located in a convenient place such as we examined on occasion of my recent visit to your city...Please make the necessary examinations as to title &c. and have deed made out in name of the Hazard Powder Company of Enfield Conn." 'A.G. Hazard, Prest.' though perhaps it would e better to keep the name in the background until the magazine is completed..."

(12) Same folding flyers for the Winchester Store, 1926, for L.P. Charpiot, West Unity, Ohio. Besides rifles, they are selling flashlights, saws, hammers, axes, screwdrivers, pliers and other hand tools, plus meat grinders, roasting pans, teapots, other pans and buckets, footballs, basketballs, and much more.

Two amber target balls. Ca 2-1/2 in. diam.

Cover with color advertising for the Remington Autoload Rifle, with additional black-&-white advertising on verso.

Cover addressed to Major Samuel Colt, Hartford, Conn. In 1854-55 Colt was commandant of the state Horse Guard.

Reproduction of the 1836 "Alamo" powder flask, "Liberty or Death" across the top of the design. Missing spout/powder measurer.

Small locking cuff that could hold the barrel of a long gun. Will & Finck, San Francisco. With bar for three anchors to affix to a wall or other stable surface. (Note: we are not positive about the purpose of this item, but it would be difficult to saw through, thus would be relatively secure. The manufacturers were known especially for their knives so they were in touch with the weapons and their users.
