A Group of Chinese Export Armorial Porcelain with the Arms of Stephens

Circa 1740-60

with arms of Turnbull, Deane and/or Russell in pretence, comprising six plates, a soup plate, a punch bowl, a saucer, a cup, a teapot and a creamer; 12 items total.
Height of punch bowl 5 x diameter 12 inches.

Heirloom and Howard, London (with invoices and related documents)

Note:

The coats-of-arms depicted in this lot are of those of the descendants to John Stephens, Attorney General to King Charles I. Per the associated provenance documents from Heirloom and Howard included with the lot, "the Stephens family of Little Sodbury and Estington in Gloucestershire derived from the Stephens of Tregony in Cornwall." The punchbowl is attributed to having been part of a service "ordered by Capt. William Stevens of the East Indiaman 'Delaware' in Canton in 1748," while the soup plate is documented as having "been made for the Revd. Nathaniel Stephens, born 1679, who married Ellis, daughter of Philip Deane of Harwich."

Having a section of restoration to the bowl, with some areas of amber-colored glue or fill-in residue visible, and a small chip along the rim. The creamer having restoration and/or repair to the spout. The teapot having restoration to the finial on the lid and minute fleabites to the edge of the lid and end of the spout. The soup plate having a hairline running throughout the center with some amber-colored fill-in material to the underside of the rim. Having minute chips to the rims of the plates; one example with extensive restoration, exhibiting a textured surface and the restoration flaking to the underside, another example with two hairlines to the rim. The punch bowl with a large section of repair to the body. See attached images for further reference. Additional images available upon reqeuest.
