BURKHOLDER, photographer. Co. D.-8th Regt. O.N.G.-Camp Willis 1915. Mansfield, [OH]: Burkholder, 1915. Image 21 1/8 x 6 7/8 in. black and white photograph (occasional fading); framed to 23 1/8 x 8 3/4 in. (chipping, residue to glass; not examined out of frame). In 1916, over 7,000 soldiers mustered at Camp Willis were deployed to the Mexican border. In 1917, the Ohio National Guard was recruited to wartime strength and was sent to Camp Sheridan, AL to form the 37th "Buckeye" Division which would see action on the battlefields of France and Belgium during the Meuse-Argonne campaign.

[With:] Group portrait of (possibly) the 179th Artillery Battalion, Co. B. N.p.,: N.p., [after 1948]. 17 1/2 x 5 3/4 in. black and white photograph; framed to 23 1/8 x 11 1/8 in. Includes a single Black soldier in an otherwise all-White group indicating the image was taken post-desegregation of the US Military in 1948.
