Note:

Nehemiah Hubbard was a prominent banker and merchant of eighteenth-century Middletown who served as Quartermaster General to George Washington. The Hubbard family were early settlers in Connecticut, and Nehemiah Hubbard's house, built in 1745, remains a private residence but is now on the National Register of Historic Places.

Nehemiah Hubbard's nephew, William Hubbard, settled in Ohio in 1834 following the 1795 re-division of land in the Ohio Territory. His house, built in late 1840, was saved from demolition in 1979 by Thomas Huntington Hubbard, and is now the Hubbard House Underground Railroad Museum, Ashtabula, Ohio.

In overall fine and stable condition. Appears to retain traces of a rich historic surface. Appears to retain period glass panes. The hinges appear to be original. Old scuffs, marks and scratches consistent with age and use. Two glass panes have been cracked but intact. The knobs on both the upper and lower cupboard exhibit levels of deterioration or loss. The rear leg support exhibits traces of worm or powder-post beetles that are no longer present, but the rear post also appears to have been reduced by about 1 inch. Depth from center back of interior (at the corner; not from the center of the flat center back panel) to front of interior side is 29 inches. The flat center back panel is 10 inches. - CLH

Nick Coombs is a senior specialist in the Furniture & Decorative Arts department and also the Coins, Medals & Banknotes department at Freeman's.
Prior to joining Freeman's in 2014, Mr. Coombs worked for PCGS Currency in Peoria, Illinois, where he was responsible for the grading and authentication of paper money. This enabled him to travel to dozens of coin and currency shows a year and develop a lifelong passion for numismatics. In addition to heading the Coins, Medals & Banknotes department at Freeman's, Mr. Coombs works closely with Furniture & Decorative Arts department and has directed auctions for philatelics, memorabilia, scientific instruments, and fountain pens. He received a BA in art history from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a master of letters in art and art world practice from the University of Glasgow.
