The present lot was purportedly once housed in the Greek Hall of the John Wanamaker Department Store of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania—one of the first department stores in the United States and a highly influential model to the development of the retail industry. Having initially opened in 1876, Wanamaker's was re-designed by renowned Chicago architect Daniel H. Burnham at the turn of the 20th century.
