From 1776 until 1778 Harris served under Commander-in-Chief of British Land forces, General William Howe in the Battles of Long Island, White Plains, Cooch's Bridge, Fort Washington, Brandywine, and Monmouth. General Harris was bestowed the title of Baron of Seringapatam and Mysore in 1815 after his successful siege of the city and overthrow of the Kingdom in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War.
