A Small Inscribed Bronze Buddhist Votive Stele, dated Jing Yun 2nd Year (711 AD), Tang Dynasty
唐景雲二年 銅佛
This miniature votive stele features a standing Buddha wearing a robe of multi-layered, heavy drapery. His hands are held in the varada mudra, the gesture of granting blessings. The reverse side bears an inscription revealing that it was commissioned "on the 17th day of the sixth month in the second year of Jing Yun (711 AD)" by Mrs. Zang, wife of Sima Jiang, for the safety of her brother. The entire stele is mounted upon a turtle base.
