Lot Note:
This painting exemplifies Emma Fordyce MacRae’s meticulous technical process. Painted on Masonite, it reflects her preference for textured supports. The visible roughness of the surface suggests she may have painted on the reverse side of the board, a method she favored for its canvas-like texture. MacRae often applied gesso to materials like paperboard or hardboard to create a firm, plaster-like base, enhancing the visibility of brushstrokes and allowing the ground texture to become part of the composition. The technique contributes to the tactile richness and visual depth seen in the detailed rendering of objects like the potted plant, bird sculpture, and rug.

In overall very good condition. Small loss to upper left corner of board. softening present to extreme edges of board most notable at corners. No apparent issues under UV. Additional images available upon request.
