Estimate$10,000 – $15,000
Height of porphyry only: 13 inches.
The tazza is in three parts with the dolphin-form base, the bottom of the tazza and the body of tazza in separate parts. The bottom of tazza connects to dolphin-form base through a metal post. The upper part of the body of tazza simply rests on the lower part. The lower part is fractured through its middle and can support the weight of the upper part, but feels precarious. It needs professional repair. The slate base with some breakage and loss to bottom sides, most pieces present and base still appears stable. The porphyry body with an area of infill on the interior of body, restoration to one of the snake handles and an area of infill to underside of gadroon border. The rockery underneath the dolphin supports unpolished but does not appear to be a replacement or composite creation. A Few other scattered areas of small infill and flakes. Weighs approximately 130 pounds total. Additional images available upon request.
