Some mount edges trimmed and corners clipped.

Highlighted subjects, some identified in period script or tentatively identified by previous consignor, include: John Trout Greble, US Regular Army 2nd Light Artillery, KIA 6/10/1861 at Big Bethel, VA (Boston: Silsbee, Case & Co.). Greble was the first Regular Army officer and graduate of the US Military Academy killed in the Civil War. -- John Hartranft, MOH 1st Bull Run (Washington: Gardner), 2-cent revenue stamp on verso. -- Abram Duryee, 5th New York Volunteers, "Duryee's Zouaves" (New York: Anthony) (2 CDVs). Duryee raised the hard fighting 5th NY and briefly led a division while being wounded five times. -- Haldimand Sumner Putnam, 7th NH Infantry, KIA 2nd Battle of Fort Wagner (New York: Fredricks & Co.). -- Possibly Henry Schneider, Co. E, 106th Ohio Infantry (as per modern tag inscribed by consignor) (Akron: Manly), 2-cent revenue stamp on verso. The carte lacks a period identification making it difficult to confirm the consignor's ID. The 106th Ohio Volunteers were active during the period of Confederate General John Hunt Morgan's Raid in July 1863. -- Gustavus Tafel, 106th Ohio Infantry (Nashville: Giers & Co.). Period notation on verso, "Col. Tafel 106 regmt. Ohio, Henry Schneider's Col." -- Subject identified on mount as "Col. Hoyt" (Washington, DC: Addis). Consignor's modern tag suggests the subject may be George Hoyt of the 143rd Pennsylvania Infantry, although this cannot be confirmed. -- James Jackson Lowell, 20th MA Infantry, WIA Glendale and died of wounds. Whipple (Boston). Friend to 54th MA Colonel Robert Gould Shaw. -- CDV of Thomas R. Davis (New York: Brady). Inscribed from Davis to General William E. Strong, "My dear Strong, you will remember your friend Thos. R. Davis." A clipped listing from an unknown catalog indicates that the CDV came from an album assembled by Strong, and that an inscription on verso was written in Strong's hand, "Special artist for 'Harper's Weekly' with 17th Corps Strong Vicksburg Campaign." -- Jefferson Reeves, Co. H, US Colored Troops 65th Infantry (New York: Brady). Accompanied by clipped signature of Jefferson Reeves, which is separated at center and taped to verso. -- CDV, printed title in lower margin "The Empty Sleeve," featuring depiction of a Civil War soldier and amputee with his daughter on his lap (Worcester, MA: C.P. Critcherson). -- CDV of two men seated together, modern penciled notation on verso tentatively identifies subjects as "Wm. Relm & Eth. Anderson" (Philadelphia: Keenan). Verso with "Women's Penna Branch of the US Sanitary Commission" ink stamp. -- And 8 others.

Also enclosed is a locket containing a circular albumen photograph of an unidentified naval officer and a circular image, likely a tintype, of an unidentified woman, potentially his sweetheart. Each image approx. 1 1/4 in. diameter. Images and locket in very good condition overall.
