With silk-covered boards, yellow endpapers, each stamped 'Tingqua', enclosing approximately 120 ink-on-paper line illustrations of figures in various Chinese occupations, inscribed Shou, titled and numbered in Chinese 241 to 360, and with labels in the lower corner with translations of the titles.

The present album, likely one of several in a larger set, is a remarkable record of the wide variety of occupations pursued in Southern China in the 19th century. Figures include makers of ladies' shoes, rat catchers, beggars, and exorcists. Tingqua (Guan Lianchang, 1809-1870) was one of the most prolific and sought-after artists active in Guangzhou in the 19th century. He was the son of the famous painter Guan Zuolin, better known in the West as Spoilum, and the younger brother of the artist Lamqua. The American merchant Augustine Heard introduced Tingqua’s works to the United States, bringing back from China an important collection of paintings by Tingqua, now in the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts, including four albums painted with Chinese professions, accession number E21010.1-480. 庭呱本名关联昌（1809-1870），字俊卿，广东南海人，與弟弟林呱（关乔昌）同爲十九世紀广州十三行地区著名的外销画画家。

关联昌曾居澳门四年，一度担任英国画家乔治·钱纳利的助手。钱纳利是1820年代即定居中國南方的英国画家，創作了大量風景與肖像畫，在当时的中国口岸是第一流的。庭呱作爲他的助手，吸取了西洋古典油画的光线和透视处理方法，對亭阁屋宇的描摹則遵循中國傳統界画。他以水粉在通草纸上描绘中国社会风俗，结构精确，色彩明丽。大多取材市井生活與商埠风光。

他的画店位于广州十三行同文街16号，画作带有Tingqua标记，如本冊之扉頁。這套120開冊頁描繪的是晚清各行各業，筆法細膩流暢，每幀寫有職業名稱與頁碼，並小字“壽”，可能是畫師名稱。

庭呱畫店的作品大量被英美商人购买，现藏于諸多博物馆，尤以對華商貿頻繁的馬薩諸塞州波士頓一帶最盛，譬如西泠鎮碧波地博物館，收有多種冊頁（編號E21010.1-480）。
