本品最早的記錄是1955年3月30-31日紐約帕克-博內拍賣行為通運公司舉辦的中國藝術專場。按圖錄,這對墓門與一具石棺同屬一墓,分為三件標的上拍。按《廬芹齋傳》,1914年末,廬芹齋帶著老東家張靜江的内弟姚叔萊從上海航至紐約,開辦美國通運公司。1952年,為廬芹齋、吳啓周、姚叔萊等海外古董商在華辦貨的葉叔重等人走私案發入獄,庫存沒收,因此這套墓門+石棺組合的高等級石葬具應該在1915-1951年間運抵美國。
1955年3月的拍賣中,三個標的無一成交。十年後,姚叔萊去世,副手鲍叔秬也已年近七旬,於是在帕克-博內拍賣行舉辦結業專場,依舊分三個標的上拍,墓門由戴潤齋競得,時為1964年11月。
當時戴潤齋已經在廬芹齋的背書下遷居紐約逾十年,並崛起為首屈一指的大古董商。中美斷交,他的貨源大多來自歐美各地大小拍賣。在這場通運公司的結業專場,他大舉買下幾十個標的,其中最著名的就是後來在波士頓斯纳金拍卖行售出的天價“瓷母”。
按美國國立亞洲藝術博物館(弗利爾)所藏戴潤齋檔案,這對墓門庫存編號4933,落槌價$175,倉儲和搬運花費$300,底座製作耗資$500。木製底座上焊角鋼,每扇門扉背後嵌入四枚螺母,以螺栓固定在角鋼之上,石門底部不與木座相接,營造懸浮式的視覺效果。
戴潤齋逝后,墓門歸戴潤齋基金會,2011年3月上拍于紐約蘇富比,未成交,年尾轉到專營高端遺產的Stair Galleries,本地豪客舉走。又十二年,該藏家下世,遺產由紐約爱嘉福拍賣行上拍,買家即本次拍賣的委托方。由於不瞭解墓葬美術,加之運輸不便,委托方買到后將之滯留庫房。今春看到我行售出的五代仕女圖畫像磚,想到兩年前在爱嘉福“撿到”的侍女雙門,於是聯係庫房,發現因爲長期未取,拍品被再度上拍,於是再次拍下,清理、修整后,今秋呈現。

Stand:
Height: 38 1/8 x width 42 x depth 10 in., 97 x 106 x 25 cm.
Before restoration:
One door broken in two, each door with chips and each with four apertures drilled for attaching to the stand, the apertures inset with threaded steel for attaching to the stand; the stand with chips and wear to the black pigment and plywood base, the steel rusted.
