David Webb, one of history’s most important American jewelers, first began metalworking with his uncle as a young boy. He then spent much of his twenties in the New York diamond district, where he worked to develop his craftsmanship skills and make a name for himself. Webb founded his eponymous company in 1948, and the 1950s saw Webb’s designs explode in popularity. His bracelets were featured in Vogue, Revlon campaigns, and LIFE magazine. Webb’s use of bold colors, gemstones, and animal motifs appealed to the modern American woman, worn by notable clientele such as Elizabeth Taylor and Jackie Kennedy. His pieces are known for their whimsical designs and use of enamel texture, color, and pattern. Today, new David Webb pieces are designed off an archive of 40,000 original drawings and designs, continuing Webb’s iconic distinct and bold creativity.
