Born in 1881 on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Seaman Schepps rose from humble beginnings to become one of America’s most important jewelers. Schepps grew up with a deep appreciation for the arts. He became a traveling salesman and eventually opened jewelry stores in Los Angeles and San Francisco before returning to New York in 1921. After the 1929 stock market crash destroyed his business, Schepps reinvented his approach to jewelry, focusing on exclusive designs that combined bold colors, unusual materials, and innovative craftsmanship. Reopening his retail presence on Madison Avenue in 1934, Schepps built a distinguished clientele that included President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the Duchess of Windsor, and members of the Du Pont, Mellon, and Rockefeller families. Following his death in 1972, his legacy continued to grow, attracting collectors including Andy Warhol, Joan Quinn, and Holly Solomon. Today, Seaman Schepps operates boutiques out of New York City, Nantucket, and Palm Beach. His name remains synonymous with bold creativity, glamour, and distinctly American jewelry design.
