Born in France in 1907, renowned jewelry designer Jean Schlumberger (d. 1987) began his career designing for Elsa Schiaparelli in the 1930s, interacting with influential artists such as Salvador Dali. Impressed by his unique designs, Tiffany & Co. brought him on in 1956 as Vice President, ushering in a remarkable era of jewelry design. His whimsical, sculptural interpretations of nature revolutionized jewelry design and transformed 20th century fashion, worn by many style icons of the time, including Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, and Elizabeth Taylor. Iconic Schlumberger designs include the ‘Rope’ collection, ‘Bird on Rock,’ ‘Sixteen Stone,’ and the Croisillon enamel bracelets.
