exhibiting a nice old dark surface, the top surface of top with slightly lighter and brighter appearance than underside or base, possibly indicating it has been cleaned selectively polished, the top appears to be one board, and with a few age cracks along edge; the cleats to underside of top missing a couple screws, and the brass latch has been repositioned (other screw holes present), when the top tilts, it is a bit tight around the birdcage block and takes slight finessing to get it closed or opened; missing a shim to keep the birdcage in place on the shaft of the base; the bottom block of birdcage support has a repaired break along one corner- with a later pin / tenon evident; the top portion of shaft where the shim notch is has an age crack; the lower part of shaft with a knot that has been patched and filled, and presently with some slight crackling indicative of age; the legs are secure, with some very minor surface age cracks; the underside of tripod retains the iron spider brace
