Provenance:
Collection of Ron Hoffman and Tony Gampetro.
Note:
The Reverend Harris Harding was a much loved Baptist minister, itinerant preacher, and educator who served Yarmouth and surrounding Maritime communities for nearly 60 years.
The online The Dictionary of Canadian Biography (1985) entry for the sitter quotes
Harding's biographer J. Davis, "Harding was good at pastoral work and visitations. Much of his effective work was done on such occasions. As Harding grew older he became extremely portly." And concludes, "Instead of turning him into a comical figure, however, his size and gravity made him extremely impressive, and he was one of the beloved figures of his denomination."
The physical condition of lots in our auctions can vary due to age, normal wear and tear, previous damage, and restoration/repair. All lots are sold "AS IS," in the condition they are in at the time of the auction, and we and the seller make no representation or warranty and assume no liability of any kind as to a lot's condition.
