not lined; canvas with slight flex; with scattered cracquelure; overall with a subtle green fluorescence under UV light, likely revealing a later applied varnish; there is a noticeable vertical scratch or crack of paint loss to upper left-facing side of painting, to left of head, which does not penetrate to back, and has been selectively inpainted; the center of painting with several areas of prominent cracking / cracquelure to paint surface, including to face and left of face, these areas being selectively inpainted; with some scattered areas of retouching, including to right-facing side of head / hairline, to chest, and lower area above hands; the frame is period, the gilding has heavily darkened over time, with some losses to gesso / gilding along edges commensurate with age age
