in three parts, with flat molded cornice, over two paneled doors revealing clothing drawer slides, the lower section with two short drawers over three long drawers, on shaped apron with French feet, the top surface of bottom section incised, "Boston, Mass/ E. Ph".

Born in Boston in 1928, Helen (Gay) Scott, nee Elliot, was a pianist, piano teacher, mother of three and grandmother of seven. She studied piano at the Longy School of Music, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and later at the Royal College of Music and Trinity College of Music, 1969-1973, while living in London where her husband was special assistant to Walter Annenberg, the American ambassador to the Court of St. James. Married for 42 years to Robert Montgomery Scott (1929-2005), President and CEO of the Philadelphia Museum of Art from 1982-1996, Helen served on the board of the Curtis Institute of Music, taught piano at the Settlement Music School, and privately into her nineties. She was an alumna of the Shady Hill School, the Foxcroft School and Radcliffe College.

in a nice overall condition given age, with wonderful figuring to mahogany; solid and sturdy, the drawers are very clean and glide easily overall, the top interior clothing drawer a bit snug and has some hesitation with opening; brass pulls appear to be original; with some occasional minor splits or losses to veneer commensurate with age and use, including to apron, feet, side panels, and cornice; some drawer cockbeading with some typical subtle mends; the upper left-facing hinge of left door and bottom right-facing hinge of right door with some repairs from former splits or breaks to wood; the left-facing side panel of upper section with repaired split; the interior of right-facing door with applied mahogany brace to support the splitting to natural inclusions in wood grain from fluctuations over time; the feet appear to be ok, with a probable repair to back right-facing support along back; does not include a key
