lined, but retains old stretcher; with some subtle cracquelure; with some selective areas of retouching revealed under UV light, including to upper edge and upper right-facing corner (sky), lower clouds, a few areas to perimeter, some areas to sky between sails, and some probable areas to lower edge; an evident repaired T shaped tear where center sail meets rear sail- with overpainting evident under UV light; there is some occasional green fluorescence under UV light, likely indicative of an applied varnish, with a particular emphasis on the body of ship--UV light reveals a crackled effect- the varnish may be filling in previous voids, and the body of ship also likely with a few areas of retouching; the frame is 20th-century, but presents well
