Deep Space by Jane Piper exemplifies the artist’s masterful balance between observation and abstraction. Known for her modernist still lifes, Piper transformed a tabletop arrangement of flowers and fruit into a dynamic interplay of color, gesture, and structure. In this work, sweeping white diagonals and luminous passages of green, coral, and violet fracture the composition, creating a sense of movement that pushes the bouquet outward into the surrounding space.

Though rooted in the tradition of still life, Deep Space feels anything but static. Piper’s confident brushwork and layered planes dissolve clear spatial boundaries, allowing objects to hover between representation and abstraction. The result is a painting that explores light, depth, and rhythm and reflects Piper’s enduring engagement with form and color.

Framed: 46 x 42 x 2 inches.
The painting appears to be in very good condition, with a few small areas of minor craquelure. There is a tiny, no larger than 1/8 inch loss at the center of right edge. Under UV light a few small areas of soiling fluoresce at bottom left and bottom right, however no inpainting is apparent. Please request additional images.
