The present lot bears the Gardner Symonds Estate stamp on the reverse. The two artists were close friends, and this was one of many Betts' paintings owned by Symonds and stamped for his estate.
Provenance:
George Gardner Symonds
Patricia Weiner Gallery, Cinncinati, Ohio
Acquired from the above by the present owners, 1988
Framed: 20 5/8 x 18 5/8 in.
Heavy deposits of dust; canvas is unlined; frame abrasions along each edge with associated areas of paint loss; scattered instances of craquelure, most apparent at lower center with associated lifting. Under UV light: any additional inpainting is difficult to discern due to the thick and uneven application of varnish applied. Additional images available upon request.
