An Egyptian Sandstone Relief Fragment with a Worshipper

New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, Amarna Period, Reign of Akhenaten, 1353-1335 B.C.

Height 22 cm (8 5/8 inches).

Oliver Forge and Brendan Lynch Ltd., London, 2015 (Fragments: From the Tiber to the Ganges, no. 11).

Inspected under UV light and 10x loupe. Preserved traces of pigment visible throughout. Some corrosion consistent with water exposure. Losses throughout, and age-commensurate wear. Possible surface enhancement evident. Overall in stable condition. See additional images. Permanently affixed to wood lacquer stand. Height with stand 29.5 cm.

Mr. Coley joined the Antiquities department in 2021 after working as Managing Director in the Ancient Art department at Colnaghi, the world’s oldest commercial art gallery, where he helped to establish the Ancient Art department and launched Colnaghi New York in 2017. Prior to Colnaghi, Mr. Coley was in the Greek and Roman Art department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mr. Coley holds a B.A. from the University of Miami and an M.A. in Art Market from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and he earned an art-appraisal certificate from New York University.
