FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION IN ENGLISH and the first edition of John Phillips's translation. Phillips (1631-1706) was the nephew and godson of John Milton (1608-1674), and his translation is only the second into English, following Thomas Shelton's in 1612 (part one only) and 1620 (first complete edition).
