Howard, Robert E. (1906-1936). Skull-Face and Others. Sauk City, WI: Arkham House, 1946.
8vo. Original black cloth; dust jacket (very light sunning to spine, a few tiny nicks to spine ends).
FIRST EDITION. Skull-Face and Others comprises the first major collection of stories by Robert E. Howard, creator of Conan the Barbarian and widely considered to be the father of the "sword and sorcery" genre. Many of these stories were initially published in Weird Tales. Publisher August Derleth received some criticism from readers for not including more Conan stories, a criticism which he anticipated and addressed in his introduction to the book, writing, "the earlier Howard wrote more skillfully than the Howard who created and exploited the popular Conan." The dust jacket features art by Hugo Award-winning artist Hannes Bok. Jaffery, 19.
