FIRST EDITION, second issue. INSCRIBED BY WELLS: "To Eileen Power, In return for various books she didn't send me & ought to of." The Time Machine was first serialized from January to May 1895 in The New Review, with its first appearance in novel form published to coincide with the final installment's appearance, and is described as "the earliest known work of science fiction to be based on the idea of time travel" (Wells Society 4).
