Signed lower right in the negative, "Entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1871 / By Joshua Smith, / in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington, D.C." Framed, 14 x 35 1/2 in. (Toning throughout print and mount, occasional soiling, 2 in. vertical tear near lower right corner that appears to be original to print, print not examined outside frame.)
[With:] 6 albumen photographs of Chicago in ruins following the 1871 fire, approx. 9 1/8 x 13 1/4 in. or smaller, each mounted on cardstock, matted, and framed, 18 1/2 x 22 1/2 in. Although uncredited, three of the prints include captions in the negatives identifying the scenes as showing the intersection of Randolph and Franklin Streets as well as Lake Street and Washington Street.
