Most with series title and image title printed or written in period script on mount. The group contains approx. 12 stereoviews capturing the ruins of the Great Chicago Fire credited to the noted 19th century photographer George Barnard, who was once employed by Lovejoy & Foster. Each view by Barnard includes an applied paper label on verso with series title, image title, and photographer's imprint.
Content includes street scenes, storefronts, prominent residences, churches, landmarks, and public gatherings. An image that appears to show a photographer with a camera capturing images of the ruins is also enclosed.
