THE RARE 1839 EDITION OF THE FIRST SEPARATELY PUBLISHED WALL MAP BY MITCHELL, first published in 1831. This map is distinguished by its fine steel engraving, a technique championed by Mitchell and Young to achieve greater sharpness and durability than the copper plates employed by earlier mapmakers. RARE: According to online records, this edition has never sold at auction. cf. Ristow, p.309 (does not mention this edition).
