The present Lot will be on view at Freeman's Upper East Side galleries located at 32 E. 67th St in New York, May 6-11, 10am-5pm weekdays; 11am-5pm Saturday, May 9; closed Sunday, May 10.
Provenance:
H. Judson Moore, Kenilworth, Illinois
Acquired from the above by the present owners, September 17, 1988
Framed: 35 3/4 x 29 x 3 in.
Moderate deposits of surface dirt and dust; a vertical seam in the panel running from the upper center edge to the lower center edge, extending through the man's ear, neck, and torso; pinpoint spots of abrasions in his right eye, as well as two vertical lines of the abrasion to the varnish extending from the center right edge; inpainting appears to be present, but difficult to discern due to the highly reflective, thick varnish. Under UV light: the thick varnish prohibits full viewing of any apparent inpainting to the background; small strokes of inpainting scattered through the man's face and collar. Additional images available upon request.

Condition reports prepared by Freeman's staff are provided as a convenience and may be requested from the Department prior to bidding.
The absence of a posted condition report on the Freeman's website or in our catalogues should not be interpreted as commentary on an item's condition. Prospective buyers are responsible for inspecting a lot or sending their agent or conservator to inspect the lot on their behalf, and for ensuring that they have requested, received and understood any condition report provided by Freeman's.
