Craquelure is scattered throughout the work. Slight buckling to canvas at upper right corner. Light soiling throughout. Areas of discoloration to varnish, most notable in sky. Evidence of cosmetic repairs to canvas, including at left over horse's breast, a patch measuring approx. 1 1/2 square is present to back of canvas. Under UV light: scattered cosmetic retouching throughout the work, most notable at right and left along apparent stretcher marks. Small strokes also visible in sky and at left above soldier.
