Robert Townsend (1819 - 1866) was a ship Captain in the United States Navy. During the Civil War, he commanded the USS Miami and Essex in battles which were critical to the Union gaining control of Louisiana and the Mississippi River.
Overall Condition: Evidence of repair to shank; it appears approximately half of the original shank has been replaced. Acid test indicates the ring is 18 karat gold and the replaced section of the shank is 14 karat gold. Some damage to the bezel setting of the cameo. Light to moderate scratching and wear to metal consistent with age and use.
