(Likely Georgia), March 13, 1838. Oblong sheet, 3.75 x 7.5 in. Manuscript receipt from M. A. Kelley to Nathan G. Christie for "...four hundred dollars for a Negro Woman named Hagar about thirty two years of age. The rights and titles of sd negro I warrant and forever defend. I also warrant her sound in body and mind." Wax seal remnant on verso; creased, scattered stains and foxing; paper loss to margins; crudely pasted to sheet of lined paper.
