[Mexican Border War] Group of RPPCs and Albums from the Mexican Border War, incl. Fort Bliss and Eagle Pass.
Extensive collection of photographs taken throughout the Mexican Border War, including US and Mexican officials, military leaders, soldiers, combat scenes, casualties, hospital scenes, ship scenes, surrounding towns including views of the destruction caused by the fighting, and native subjects, ca 1910-1918.
The lot is comprised of the following: Approx. 80 real photo postcards, most unused. Highlights include: Approx. 22 real photo postcards taken at or near Fort Bliss, Texas, including the grounds and barracks as well as soldiers in action with weaponry in hand, mounted on horseback, or gathered together at camp. -- Multiple views of casualties, including a victim of an executing squad by Horne & Co. -- Multiple views of Vera Cruz. -- Multiple views of the 1914 invasion of Vera Cruz. -- Approx. 45 photographs, primarily snapshots, 3 1/2 x 5 3/4 in. or smaller, including views of soldiers at work and in their leisure time. A number of images were taken at Paris, Texas.
[With:] 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 in. album, first page inscribed, "Views of Camp Eagle Pass, Texas Battery D, 3rd Field Artillery." Contains 100 photographs, including both real photo postcards and snapshots taken at Camp Eagle Pass on the Mexican border in Texas. Some photos are displayed in corner slots on the album page and others are mounted to the album page with adhesive. Some photographs are accompanied by period manuscript captions. A remarkable album containing views of the camp, weaponry, picket lines, and formal and informal views of the soldiers. (Album cover heavily worn, with covers almost fully separated. Images overall very good, showing light to moderate wear.)
[With:] 7 x 11 1/2 in. album containing 300+ photographs, of which approx. 130 document a soldier's service during the Mexican Border War, ca 1917. The remaining photographs include formal and informal photos of family, friends, leisurely activities, sporting events, etc. Some photos are displayed in corner tabs and others are mounted on the album page with adhesive. Photos measure approx. 4 1/2 x 2 3/4 in. or smaller. (Some wear to album extremities, some album pages loose. Condition of images varies, with most showing some light to moderate soiling, edge and corner wear).
