Hamersly, thanking him for sending a copy of a book. In part: "I beg to acknowledge receipt of the volume prepared by yourself entitled 'Army Register of the United States for One Hundred Years'...You certainly have succeed well in compressing into a single volume an immense amount of most valuable matter... I am sure that no library of American History will be complete without this volume..." Creasing from old folds, some small chips to margins.

The recipient was a member of L.R. Hamersly & Co., a New York based publisher of historical and military works.
