[Civil War] Quarter Plate Tintype of Federal Warships at Anchor at Bell Plain, Virginia
Quarter plate tintype view of a group of four, three-masted warships riding at anchor with several buildings visible on the far shoreline in the background. Image slightly dark, small scratch/imperfection in top left portion of plate. Housed in half case. A faintly inscribed paper tag, which is partially affixed on the reverse side of the plate, indicates the date and location: "6-1864 Bell Plain, Virginia. Days to Remember Uncle (?)ra." An intriguing, outdoor scene worthy of additional research.
