.52 caliber. 32.625" round barrel secured by three pin-retained flat bands. NSN. Browned finish, color casehardened breech, iron furniture, smooth walnut stock. Single-shot, breechloading flintlock rifle with Hall's patent tilting breech block, fixed offset notch rear sight, offset blade front sight with base serving as the stud for a socket bayonet, sling swivels and a button head cleaning and clearing rod. Top of breech block marked in four lines: J.H. HALL/H. FERRY/US/1838. Action remains unaltered and in original flint. The Hall holds the distinction of being the first firearm to be produced on the principle of interchangeable parts at a US Arsenal. 19,680 Hall Rifles were produced at the Rifle Works at Harpers Ferry in three major production runs, 1819, 1823-24 and 1827-1840. This is fine example of a second production type produced in the third run of manufacturing, prior to the death of John H. Hall. A Springfield Armory brass collection tag with the accession number SA029 is attached to the triggerguard. {ANTIQUE}

Very Good to Near Fine. Bore fine and bright with strong multi-groove rifling and the standard smoothbore section at the muzzle for about 1.5". Metal with much of the thinning and fading arsenal brown finish intact, showing moderate wear and loss. Breechblock with some nice dull case color and a mottled gray and bluish appearance. Markings remain clear and crisp. Mechanically functional action. Wood crisp and sharp with much of the original feathery texture present and showing some scattered minor bumps, dings and mars.
